“Healed in Waves and Rhythm”
by Tiffanie Chin
The beat found me first—
before the words,
before the healing.
A low hum in my chest,
a memory in the bass.
The colors came after—
vivid like a summer dream,
echoing laughter,
mirroring freedom.
The boombox played my truth,
unfiltered,
bold.
Music didn’t just play,
it reached inside me—
tuning pain into poetry,
doubt into dance.
Every note softened
what life had hardened.
And then,
the waves came.
Salt air wrapped around my scars,
the tide pulled my burdens out to sea,
and left grace on the shore.
The water spoke gently:
“You are new again.”
Now I live in rhythm,
paint in peace,
and bloom in sound.
This canvas is my altar—
to melody, to movement,
to all the times I saved myself
with music in my soul
and sand beneath my feet.
